Leadership Q&A with Imeiniar Chandra: "My day's like a roller coaster, but luckily, I love taking roller coasters"

Leadership Q&A with Imeiniar Chandra: "My day’s like a roller coaster, but luckily, I love taking roller coasters"

The most rewarding part of being a leader, says Imeiniar Chandra, manager at Michael Page Indonesia, is when she sees her team members doing well.

What prompted your move into recruiting?

I spent the first four years in banking and decided to switch careers after attaining my MBA. Michael Page Indonesia contacted me to be part of their pioneer team and I’ve been with the company since.

What does a typical day look like for you?

It’s like a roller coaster — luckily I love taking roller coasters. I try to meet at least two new people per day — usually I will arrange one meeting in the morning and the other in the afternoon. In between, I will manage other administrative tasks (job sourcing, ad posting and payment). On Mondays, we will have an internal team meeting to discuss plans in the pipeline. Client meetings, interviews and catching up with old clients take up the rest of my week.

What do you enjoy most about being a leader?

The most rewarding part of being a leader is when you see your team members doing well (making placements, getting the most client meetings, selling online solutions). Michael Page is always supportive when it comes to growing women as leaders.

Women in Indonesia are still expected to be housewives instead of climbing the corporate ladder, but I am hoping the paradigm will shift as companies become more involved in promoting women at work.
